A Class in Beebop is the group of students studying a particular course at a particular time (Term). The course may include multiple modules or just one, depending on whether on the course length and nature.

When students are added to a class, they are also automatically registered for all the core modules of the course linked to this class.

Classes are created from Resources > Classes at the start of each term.

Creating a Class begins with selecting the course it will be linked to (this cannot be changed later), then the Term, and finally the Main Tutor in charge of this program (i.e. the programme leader).

The name of the class is created automatically based on the Course code, the course block, and the academic term in which it falls.

If the selected course had a set of modules already defined, these are automatically added to the class, but the list of modules can still be changed for each class (say, there is a need to swap modules between year one and year two, or an additional module needs to be added).

Initially, the Main Tutor for each module is preselected to be the module leader saved in the module definition, but administrators can override this at any time and choose a different Main Tutor.

Administrators can also choose to add/remove/rearrange the Modules, assign additional Tutors and Observers (for quality assurance and training).

Registering Students to a Class

Adding Students to a class can be done by typing their names one at a time or by selecting a number of users from the list of users in Resources > Users and then using a 'mass action' button to add them all at once to a class.

Automatic Smart Groups

Beebop automatically generates a User Group for each Class. These are 'smart' User Group in the sense that they are dynamic, so adding or removing students in the Class page is automatically reflected in the User Group. These system-generated User Groups can be used to add participants to calendar events and lectures, or as targets for messages, file sharing, and for the creation of reports.
